Celebrating the women who raised super-saiyans, psychic daughters, and way too many Pokémon
Read on about the best anime moms

Mother’s Day is coming—but let’s be real: not all of us are shopping for candles and brunch reservations. Some of us are out here thinking about the Chi-Chi, Inko, and the many unsung best anime moms who shaped our favorite heroes (and also terrified them a little). 💅
So this year, instead of flowers, we’re handing out props to the queens of anime motherhood—starting with three legendary franchises that inspired us: Dragon Ball Z, Spy x Family, and Pokémon.
🥋 Chi-Chi (Dragon Ball Z)
Mom Title:
Queen of Scream, First of Her Name, Slayer of Study Breaks
Chi-Chi gets a bad rap from DBZ fans—but she’s one of the realest moms in anime. While Goku was out training with literal gods, Chi-Chi was at home running a household, raising two Saiyans, and keeping it together on a farm budget.
Did she scream a lot? Yes. Was she right most of the time? Also yes.
She didn’t just raise Gohan—she raised a scholar-warrior hybrid who can throw hands AND do taxes.
Why We Love Her:
Fierce protector
Brutally honest
Low-key MVP of every family reunion
🕶️ Yor Forger (Spy x Family)
Mom Title:
Assassin by night, wine mom by vibe
Yor is the kind of mom who shows up to PTA night in heels and could take out the entire committee if you mess with her daughter. But what makes her so iconic is the way she tries—really tries—to be a good mom in between her chaotic work schedule and complete emotional cluelessness.
Is she a little scary? Absolutely. But does she love Anya with her whole heart? You bet.
Bonus points for always being one sword stroke away from solving the entire plot of the show in one episode.
Why We Love Her:
Protects her family fiercely
Genuinely sweet when she’s not accidentally breaking arms
Might adopt you if you’re sad and standing nearby
🎒 Delia Ketchum (Pokémon)
Mom Title:
World's Most Chill Anime Mom
Delia is, quite possibly, the most underappreciated mom in all of anime. Let’s recap: She let her 10-year-old son leave home with an electric mouse and zero money, never once tried to drag him back, and continued to support his journey for over 20 years without aging a day.
And somehow, she always knows where he is. Delia Ketchum is watching. Always.
Why We Love Her:
She’s patient, stylish, and runs a business
She sends care packages like it’s her part-time job
Let’s face it: she deserves more than a Mr. Mime
💐 Final Thoughts:
You don’t have to be a perfect mom to be an anime icon—you just have to love hard, show up (even if you’re undercover), and maybe throw a ki blast once in a while.
So this Mother’s Day, we’re raising our cups (and our Poke Balls) to the women who raised our favorite characters—and honestly, raised us, too.
