Top 10 Anime Cats Who Deserve Their Own Series

Whether they're loyal sidekicks or mischievous scene-stealers, anime cats often steal the spotlight—so why haven’t they gotten their own shows yet?! As an Otaku raised in the '90s and early 2000s (back when liking anime openly meant risking social annihilation), I say it’s time these feline icons got the center stage. Let’s pitch the solo series that should exist.

We've compiled a list of our favorite anime cats who deserve their very own Anime Series!

1. Happy – Fairy Tail

Genre: Wholesome Adventure / Kids

Show Concept:

A feel-good, Saturday morning-style series where Happy goes on magical quests to help young wizards-in-training. Think Dora the Explorer meets Fairy Tail—only with more fish, flying, and Exceed-level puns. Each episode could include a small lesson on friendship, bravery, or teamwork with Happy solving mini magical mysteries across Fiore.

2. Luna – Sailor Moon

Genre: Magical Girl Origins / Supernatural Drama

Show Concept:

Set during the Moon Kingdom’s golden age, Luna’s series would reveal her life before she met Usagi. She navigates palace intrigue, cosmic diplomacy, and foreshadows the fall of the Silver Millennium. Imagine Game of Thrones meets classic Sailor Moon—with elegant gowns and cat wisdom galore.

3. The Catbus – My Neighbor Totoro

Genre: Surreal Fantasy / Studio Ghibli Vibes

Show Concept:

A whimsical anthology following the Catbus as it secretly transports spirits, children, and magical beings across Japan. Each episode is a standalone story with heart and wonder, kind of like Mushishi, but through the eyes (and headlights) of a cat-shaped vehicle.

4. Kuro – Blue Exorcist

kuro

Genre: Action Comedy / Monster of the Week

Show Concept:

Kuro takes on exorcist missions that no one else wants—with chaos and comedy in equal measure. He partners with a rotating crew of magical misfits, all while trying not to burn down the summoning shrines. Imagine a crankier version of Detective Conan, with feline fury.

5. Morgana – Persona 5

Genre: Teen Noir / Heist of the Week

Show Concept:

A slick, stylish spin-off where Morgana assembles his own Phantom Thief team. Set in a different Japanese city, they tackle twisted hearts and unravel dark secrets—all while Morgana secretly searches for his true identity. Think Lupin III meets Persona—with some cat naps in between.

6. Jiji – Kiki’s Delivery Service

Genre: Slice of Life / Cozy Witch Vibes

Show Concept:

After Kiki leaves for more training, Jiji has to hold down the magical fort. Between dealing with enchanted deliveries and local gossip, Jiji finds himself in over his tiny black head. Kind of like Natsume’s Book of Friends meets Chobits, but all from the perspective of a sarcastic black cat.

7. Buyo – Inuyasha

inuyasha

Genre: Comedy / Modern Meow-schief

Show Concept:

Set in the present day, Buyo gets accidentally transported through the well and becomes a fish-out-of-water (er, cat-out-of-era) traveler in Feudal Japan. Hijinks ensue as he bumbles into demon drama and ancient magic. If Inuyasha was the epic, this is the gag reel with paws.

8. Blair – Soul Eater

blair

Genre: Ecchi Action Comedy

Show Concept:

A more adult-oriented series where Blair runs her own magical odd-jobs business while trying to flirt her way out of trouble. Think Panty & Stocking meets Witch Hat Atelier—glamorous, mischievous, and absolutely chaotic.

9. Meowth – Pokémon

Genre: Redemption Journey / Drama-Comedy

Show Concept:

Meowth goes solo, leaving Team Rocket to search for his place in the world. Along the way, he reconnects with Pokémon who feel “different” or outcast, becoming an accidental mentor. With surprising heart and comedy, this would be like Pokémon: Origins meets BoJack Horseman (but way more hopeful).

10. Madara / Nyanko-sensei – Natsume’s Book of Friends

Genre: Supernatural / Yokai Lore

Show Concept:

A prequel series showing Madara’s centuries-long journey through the world of spirits and humans. He’s a powerful yokai with a surprisingly soft center—and we’d finally get to see how he earned the respect (and fear) of the yokai realm. Like Mushi-shi or The Ancient Magus’ Bride, but narrated by a sake-loving fat cat.

Final Thoughts:

Anime cats aren’t just sidekicks—they’re icons. These solo series could bring joy, depth, and a whole lotta meows to screens everywhere. As 90s/00s kids who used to hide our Sailor Moon VHS tapes behind our DBZ box sets… we deserve this level of feline-centered fan service.
